Nursing Associate Update

The Nursing Associate role is a new support role that will sit alongside existing healthcare support workers and fully-qualified registered nurses to deliver hands-on care for patients. Following huge interest some 2,000 people are now in training with providers across England.

There are currently 5 test sites across Yorkshire and Humber, working with 6 education providers and over 30 employer partners to produce the first Nursing Associates. This includes primary care, and in our area, Barnsley Healthcare Federation. NMC regulation for the role is due in January 2019. The test sites have all worked in different ways and are sharing successes and challenges and will offer peer support to further develop the role in the region. The Trainee Nurse Associates are feeding back their experience of the education, training and support so that future courses can reflect this in their offer.
